Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. Every Sakura knife is forged, ground, and finished by hand using traditional Japanese techniques that have been passed down for generations. No two blades are exactly alike. The subtle differences in the hammered finish and grain are proof that a craftsman shaped your knife, not a machine.
I work only with high-carbon Japanese steel, chosen for its exceptional hardness and edge retention. It takes a far sharper edge than ordinary stainless kitchen knives and holds that edge much longer. The handles are made from natural hardwood, shaped and sanded by hand for a comfortable, balanced grip.
Very. Each blade is sharpened by hand before it leaves the workshop and is ready to use the moment you unbox it. Please handle it with respect, as it will be sharper than any knife you have owned before.
They are. Because every knife is forged by hand in small batches, most designs exist in limited numbers only. Once a batch is gone, it will not be made again. If a knife speaks to you, I would not wait.
As I am preparing for retirement, I am no longer able to take on custom forging requests. I invite you to browse the final collection while it is still available.
High-carbon steel rewards a little care with a lifetime of performance. Wash your knife by hand with warm water and mild soap, dry it immediately, and never leave it soaking. Please do not put it in the dishwasher, as the heat and detergent will damage both blade and handle. A drop of food-safe oil on the blade now and then keeps it in beautiful condition.
